What this involves
Why the root matters
When a tooth is lost, the bone that supported it begins to change shape. An implant is placed into that bone and gives it something to hold, which is why implants tend to preserve the surrounding structure better than the alternatives.
The neighboring teeth are also left alone. A traditional bridge borrows support from the teeth on either side. An implant does not.
Planning and placement
Three dimensional imaging shows bone volume, nerve position and sinus anatomy before anything is scheduled. The position of the final tooth is decided first, then the implant is planned to support it.
Placement itself is a controlled surgical appointment carried out under local anesthetic, with sedation available. Most patients are surprised by how uneventful the day is.
Healing and the final restoration
The implant needs time to integrate with the bone before it carries load. That interval varies with the site and with you, and we will give you a realistic expectation for your case rather than a general one.
Once integration is confirmed, a scan captures the site and the final crown, bridge or denture attachment is made and fitted. The restoration is shaped and shaded to sit with the teeth around it.

Cases that would be better served by a specialist are identified early and referred with the reasoning explained, rather than started here and handed off later.

It depends on the site, the bone and whether anything needs to be extracted or grafted first. We give you a timeline for your case at the planning appointment rather than a general estimate.
The appointment is done under local anesthetic and sedation is available. Most patients describe the days afterward as manageable soreness rather than pain.
Often yes. Grafting can rebuild a site, and 3D imaging tells us what is actually there before anything is promised.
They need the same brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular hygiene visits as natural teeth. The tissue around an implant can become inflamed if it is neglected.
Sometimes a temporary can be placed early. Whether that is appropriate depends on how stable the implant is at placement, which is a judgment made in the moment.
